Retha M. Morrow
Retha M. Morrow aged 89, passed away Monday, September 22, 2008 at Heartlands, in Ionia. She was born August 11, 1919 in Big Rapids, the daughter of Orin and Mildred (Moore) DeGroat. She attended several area county school ans graduated from Ionia High School in 1940. She married Veryl Morrow in Lake Odessa, in 1941. They had three children. She worked at the Lake Odessa Canning Factory, The Saranac Sprayer, Saranac Inn, Pinkney’s Tavern, and retired from Lescoa in Grand Rapids. She also worked on Mackinaw Island after her retirement, for the Murray Hotel. She was known as the “Fudge Lady” , as she would give out free samples of fudge in front of the hotel. She also took care of elderly people and enjoyed doing that. Her favorite thing to do was play Bingo and go to Yard Sales. She is survived by her son , Larry (Karen) Morrow of Ionia, two grandsons, Eric(Ida) Morrow and John Morrow, of Ionia, great grandchildren, Rachel Morrow of Belmont and Hanna Morrow of Ionia, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Veryl Jr., and daughter Peggy, her brother Orin DeGroat Jr., sisters Catherine Mills, and Caroline Allen, nieces Midge Hewitt, Carolea Grummett, Dennis Allen, and Suzie Daly. Funeral services will be held Saturday 12:00 P.M. at Lake Funeral Home in Saranac with Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. Interment Lakeside Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Friday 3-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers you may make contributions to Zion Food Pantry or Boston Historical Society.
