Shirley Marie (Solomon) Smith
Shirley Marie (Solomon) Smith age 82, passed away August 2, 2008 in Grand Rapids. Shirley was born April 20th, 1926 in her grandparents home in Saranac, MI to Leon and Josephine (Greenwalt) Solomon. She was raised there by her grandparents, Hazel and Glen Tower. She graduated in 1944 from Saranac High School and married Erwin S. Smith April 7th, 1945. He preceded her in death July 1, 2006. She was a member of Boston Historical Society and enjoyed her winters in Florida with Erwin and family nights every other week.
Shirley leaves her daughters; Christine and Willard Simmons of Saranac, Rosemary and Gary Brownell of Ionia and Brenda and Gary Hubbard of Saranac; sons, Jerry and Becky Smith of Saranac and Larry and Tara Smith of Saranac; half brother, Robert and Sally Solomon of NC; half sister, Marlene Moss of Port Huron; brother in law, Floyd and Marlene Smith of Saranac; sisters in law, Gladys and Emery Bowen of Saranac, Elsie and Alfred Copron of Lowell and Elaine and John Harkes of Jenison; very special aunt and uncle Ben and Judy Tower and special pet Scooter, 13grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. at Saranac Community Church with Pastor Nancy Patera officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives Tuesday 2-4 and 7-8:30 p.m. at Lake Funeral Home in Saranac. Anyone wishing may make memorial contributions to Saranac Fire Dept. or Boston Historical Society.
